Smalltalk and the dangers of aging

I wanted to write for quite a while about Smalltalk. I have been thinking about it took some for quite a while. The occasion was the question: Why are there conversations that I enjoy and others that I find extremely boring, and what makes the difference between one and the other from?

all the time I had planned to begin about this: I can not stand small talk. I thought it was about superficial topics. I was proud to be profound, thoughtful and philosophically to be raised and thus has the usual party-talks. Anyone who has read this blog can attest that this assumption is incorrect. Then I thought it is a Muggle contra artist thing. Of course, I'm beyond all these superficial and uncreative people. How great I am. I've developed so mad that I have nothing more to ordinary people in common. Uh.

I had started think about that whole issue, as I realized that I was no longer welcome at parties. I usually go to a party, dive, looking me something to eat and drink and talk for hours. Sometime later I go home and tell my husband: "You know, if I had stayed home and had the entire evening staring at a white wall, I would have amused me more." Then he said: "As you all have the whole evening full of talk, no one could have imagined." I am a highly trained nonsense woman. I can talk for hours with anyone on everything. Especially if I get tired, I'm tired or drunk, my mouth goes on autopilot and bubbles in the area around without any apparent connection to my brain. I am one of the people, written by those Jane Espenson has always telling funny stories , gestures and sounds included. That was not quite clear to me before I read it. And then I accidentally saw in the mirror while I tell a student something that had just happened to me. Complete with sounds, grimaces and gestures. The only thing I have not done stand up, and it was audition. But only because it was a piano lesson with piano lessons and I do not get up. Only in vocal hours. While I can not see myself in the mirror when I teach singing, but I am sure I will also begin to act. completely unrestrained. But my students laugh often, so it will probably be okay.

But back to the parties. The way I do it more often, since I try to be more careful, I find, watch myself in social situations. to give the funny stories and everything, while a part of me in my head, sat looking over my shoulder and asked, "So, if you like here is not fun, why do you do that then just" and "What if you were to just stick a minute to sit here and give someone else a chance to talk?" "What if you'd just listen in?". I know a shocking idea, but I thought maybe there are other people here who might like to tell a story and the art of attracting everyone's attention have not trained as hard as I did. How, for example, my husband, he is usually in the corner that has something to say really revealing, but no one will hear it because a) everyone is talking at the same time, b) no one listens anyway, c) he is actually waiting on that someone does it for a gap and d) he ceases to speak, when no one is listening. He is also usually quite frustrated by social parties and similar gatherings.

As strange as well as I do. But from time to time I enjoy it really means to be human beings again. So what to do? The next part of the puzzle I received when we went to a concert last year. We went out, my husband and I (Only parents know how amazing it can feel like an evening long to be free and childless.) First to the station. On the train we saw clusters of young people. Uh-oh. Young adults with beer. Nevertheless, we boarded the train and were: "Hi Do you want one too." welcomed. The lump of suspicious males turned out, consisted of two of the students of my husband with the rest of her band. A pretty good band we had heard already play. We turned down the beer they had brought with them to save their hard earned money. It seems these days like to get drunk on the way out, because the beer is cheaper there. We talked. What we were planning performances, bands, I do not know what. We got out. We went to our jazz concert. We met a bunch of friends. We talked about music and musicians and everything. We went home early. On the way back I thought about how much I enjoyed the conversation on the trip was and how boring the conversation with our friends had been. But why? I still can not say for sure, but it was certainly not the talking points. None of these meetings was it is about something profound or meaningful. But at the end of the evening I'm almost wishing to be considered with young people.

At the end of NaNoWriMo there was a celebratory dinner with some writers who live in the City . When I told my husband that I hung in total pleasure, he said. "But this is the birthday of our friend determined to celebrate the day." Incidentally, this is pretty typical for her, we knew that they would celebrate the day, but they have not and there was no invitation. I thought about it and decided to go rather to a meeting of people I barely knew as to the birthday party of an old friend of my Man we have known for years. We also knew who else would be there. And I like these people. That is not at all. But it was one of her parties, where I found out that staring at a white wall is not such a bad alternative for such an evening. I was surprised. I had more in common with the writers? But even musicians would come to the party. I was confused. But I have never regretted it and even my husband was relieved to say, "Oh no, we can not come from Susan's and I have to stay with our son.." We thought we slowly become misanthropes. But then I had a meal at a lot of fun. Not as misanthropic.

Last Week parent strain was the table of my son's kindergarten class. This meeting takes place about twice a year. Interestingly, only four mothers were there (including me). Yes, mothers, not fathers. We sat in a bar, talking trivial, the kids and a possible date for ice skating. Again I have denied a large part of the conversation, but not the greatest. Again I have secretly been waiting to be allowed to go home. Again I wish I could have stayed at home, may play the piano, watch Buffy, or stare at a wall and I thought, "Why?" They were very nice women. We have about children and learning and so was spoken. All the subjects that really mean something to me. I was confused. And then I had it, or at least I said it: No one was what we were talking really important. We did only what I call "mouth noises". What was missing these conversations, was passion.

But then I thought even after times. For my father, for example, taxes are a really passionate about, but that does not help me in finding interesting discussions about taxes. And then it became really clear to me: it was not dealt with the topics of conversation. I've had interesting and stimulating conversation about things like bell bottoms and plumbers. No, it had something to do with the people. Therefore found I have the conversations with my students often more interesting than with people my age. As you get older, often a part of one dies a little. One is buried in everyday life, you do not play, you do not have fun and then you get every day a little dead. And that is what I can not stand. My mother said something similar when I told her about my problem with small talk. She said she misses her work. Not because of the work, but because of the opportunity to talk with younger people. She said: "Everyone in my age always talk about the same it's boring.." Well, everyone around my age seems to do it.

On the other Hand, I always talk about the same thing and I think that's a different kind of boredom. At least I care and am passionate and I do not feel my life running on rails and there's nothing I can do to change it. And that each day a little bit of give up and die a little every day is what my husband calls the dangers of getting older. No risk of growing old, no, of getting older. One of the women at the kindergarten mothers meeting, said: "I am always happy to come out at night." and I could only stare open-mouthed. I'm happy at home. Because you can do a lot of interesting things. (How blogging.) I do not really need to go out and do something with that means nothing to distract me from complete boredom and endless at my house.

Okay so we are talking about the people. But maybe not. So, where do I go and where not? If everything that is not an absolute yes, a no is, does that mean that I go to any kindergarten-related activities more? Or family reunion? Because people often feel at the most boring of all. I do not want to sit there like a teenager with a face that says: "Are We Done Can I go home now?" But I will not stop to see old friends and family members. Any strategies for how to get people to talk about things that they really at heart? Things I still do not know about them? Or about the world?
