Large Lump On Dog's Chest

Why I am perhaps still a bookworm

I got this year fantastic Christmas gifts, but not a single book. Since I had yet to think again. I was already clear that last year I had read fewer books because I had started every evening to watch DVDs. Just in case you're curious, I got a pen from my parents (it pays off just when people just say what you'd like), the "MirrorMask" DVD, a film that Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman together have made, had chosen my sister from Amazon wishlist and my husband surprised me - DVDs.

I knew he was this year with his gift to turn a lot earlier than usual was because he told me Our mission, not their e-mails, nor his Amazon account, nor his bank account to check. Then he added: "I could buy more of it than I thought." More what? I concluded that he had either bought me more Buffy DVDs or oracle cards, which were also on my wish list. Imagine how surprised and delighted I was when I unwrapped my gift and that the first and second season of "Deep Space Nine" took place. Yes, I am also a Star Trek fan and my husband and I are of the same opinion that "Deep Space Nine" the best of all Star Trek series is. (I know that we are completely alone in this opinion there.)

Back to the books. So I was sitting on Christmas Eve there and looked at my wonderful gifts and was confused. No book! Well, I thought, I'm probably not a bookworm more, now I am someone who enjoy watching films. Back home, I realized that there were still around a few more books. There is a pile on my desk, lots of bookshelves, maybe I had missed something. So I decided to register anzuschaien my books to find out how many books I have received in 2006 either purchased or donated. Yes, I have so many books that I manage by computer have to do to I do not buy or twice they never find again. Okay, are you ready? I got 2006 21 new books.

Then I thought, "What about the ebooks? It was a bit more complicated, because I did not cover in my file (which is strange when I think about it, as if they were not), but finally I had a number, I have bought ebooks 2006 9.

How many of these books I've read so? I have read 11 ebooks, because I also bought a couple of late 2005. Of the real books that I've got 2006, I have read 16th I started 5 or 6 more. The reason that I thought I'm not a man of books more, was that it is in most of these books dealing with non-fiction. I have read two books on finances, one of prosperity, three of coach Cheryl Richardson, a book about organization, two of relationships and how they improved ("Getting the Love You Want" is the great and another thing on my I can hardly remember that gave me a girlfriend. This book has me really brought nothing new.), a fitness book about T-Tapp, three books on songwriting (the third is an exercise book that I've barely started) two books on bipolar disorder, and an educational book (only one?) "Playful Parenting", which I can only recommend. And then I "Writing Down the Bones" and "Creativity rules!" re-read to prepare for NaNoWriMo. Phew. I'll spare you further details and titles. Now for the fiction, because that is what counts:

"Dark Tort: A Novel of Suspense (Goldy Bear Culinary Mysteries)" (Diane Mott Davidson)

I love the Goldy Bear detective stories for a long time but I have a feeling that they are a bit weaker. On the other hand, it is hard to write a series in which there are only good books. I do not think I'm going to read this book again.

"Strange Travelers: New Selected Stories "(Gene Wolfe)
So I'm still not quite finished. The stories are excellent, but not easy to read and it was not such a good idea to buy this book as an ebook.

" Destroyer (Foreigner Universe) "(CJ Cherryh)
I love every single book of the Foreigner series and they are getting better. I've been waiting impatiently for the next volume in paperback.

" Cat's Eyewitness (Mrs. Murphy Mysteries (Paperback)) "(Rita Mae Brown)
Okay, although I could not tell what it is. There is apparently a problem with detective series.

"First Meetings in Ender's Universe" (Orson Scott Card)
to read well, but I've actually read more so to have read everything in the final universe.

"Shadow of the Giant (Ender, Book 8) (Ender's Shadow)" (Orson Scott Card)

Very good.

"Mona Lisa Overdrive (Bantam Spectra Book)" (William Gibson)

I had decided to buy the entire Neuromancer trilogy once again in English. I had previously read only in German and was of the habit of the translator, unnecessary footnotes, things like "cursor" said, annoyed. Note however the possibility that these books originally appeared in the 80s.

"I Had Brain Surgery, What's Your Excuse?" (Suzy Becker)
I hereby open this biography Department. I read it more and more lately. This is funny and entertaining, despite the weighty subject.

"Composing a Life" (Mary Catherine Bateson)
had bought the mine because Suzy Becker had mentioned it.

"With a Daughter's Eye" (Mary Catherine Bateson)

Apparently I had "Composing a Life" fallen. These are the memories of Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson. Since I've also studied anthropology, I had to read the simple.

"Shadow March, Volume I" (Tad Williams)

I love Tad Williams, not least because all of his novels are so nice and thick. This one was a little tough at first, but I am waiting for part 2

"Floor Sample" (Julia Cameron)

By Julia Cameron I have read almost everything, which is one of my heroines. This memoir (yes, again) read very interesting and show facets that are not seen in her other books.

"Wintersmith (Terry Pratchett)

Terry Pratchett is the only author other than JK Rowling, whose books I allow myself to buy a hardcover edition, because I can not wait that long. I love, love, and love the Discworld novels, especially those with the witches, and so of course the Tiffany Aching books.

I know I've re-read in any case, the three Tiffany Aching books by Terry Pratchett, but probably a few of his other books. I read the whole Discworld series again and again. As I have read CJ Cherryh, I re-read a few books and Foreigner-I know I'm all Mrs. Pollifax novels I read again and two other novels by Dorothy Gilman (a psychic), and in any case, "Gaudy Night" by Dorothy L. Sayers. What gave me the feeling that they are no longer a man of books, was the fact that I read less fiction than usual and that "Until I Find You" for half a year is on my bookshelf. I still remember how I found it in a real bookstore (not at Amazon, where I buy almost all other books) and I had been really looking forward to read it. Then, every time I went back to read something, I thought, "Oh, ne, that is so heavy, I would rather read something else." Currently I'm reading "Running from the deity" by Alan Dean Foster. I think it's not overly exciting, but because it is part of a series ...

When I say I read the book right now, then I lie, because the books I read right now are: "Take Time for Your Life," "Ask Your Spirit Guides", "Head First HTML", "Buddhism Guide "(Wow, one in German!)," Getting Things Done "(highly recommended) and" History of Early Witchcraft ". Uh.

So, how many books you've read last year? Something interesting? I find it rather amusing that I have read only two books in German. No wonder that I blog in English. Sometimes I even think in English. What do you think I should about the books I read, write here what? My writing buddy Adrian do that and I think it's always very interesting to see what the people that I like, lies at the heart.
